Periodic Table

The Science Center of Iowa was in
need of a new donor recognition system. Previous displays had been
un-updatable, fragile and had little or no thematic links to the institution's mission.
My goal with this design was to create a sustainable, easily refreshed donor display that also functioned as an interactive science exhibit about the periodic table of elements.
Each element tile features the names
of donors, reverse printed in-house
on completely transparent (and easily removable) adhesive film. The different groups of elements correspond with
the various donor levels, and are denoted by the tile colors.
The installation includes a touchscreen
kiosk that provides a searchable list of donors and shows their location on the wall. But perhaps more importantly, the kiosk also allows visitors to select each element to learn more about its properties, see a photo and manipulate a 3D model of that element's atomic structure.
