Support from a local chain of grocery stores allowed for partial renovation of SCI's early childhood exhibit area. This design centered around a "farm-to-table" concept that leveraged existing components as well as new pieces. One new element was a fruits and vegetables market, complete with
check out conveyor and cash register. The other major addition was to cut into what had previously been just the facade of a farmhouse, and build a toddler-sized kitchen into the newly accessible space.
As part of the agreement, environmental design was to echo elements from the grocery chain's own branding. This produced some especially fun results in the kitchen area.
Two years later, the original sponsor for
this exhibit was unable to continue their support. This led to another grocer stepping in to fill the funding gap, a complete rebranding of the market area and the addition of a meat counter.
